Unleashing Curiosity: Adventures at Forest School
🍃 As the first leaves of learning unfurl in their autumn term at forest school, some of kids adventurists have taken their first steps into a world of enchantment and endless possibilities in the outdoors while others begin to hone their skills.
They've explored the boundaries of our new realm, learning the language of safety and respect, and proving to us that they are both brave and wise. Building dens and creating hideaways, they've demonstrated not just raw creativity, but have also shown fabulous teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Be it creating a forest band, awakening the woods (and possibly everyone else) with their melody, or working diligently to keep our beloved Mrs. Owl comfortable in her natural habitat, their empathy and sense of responsibility have been truly inspiring.
They've shown us how to see and respect every creature, no matter how small, and respect them, creating five-star bug hotels and taking on challenges like planting bulbs - which we hope will flourish when they return in spring.
Our forest school environment has buzzed with energy at times as they experimented with blackberry and chalk paint making, made clay faces on trees, and crafted boats from natural materials.
They explored the power of fire, understanding our safety steps and the red, orange, and green dragons, acting safely, but learning to embrace risks through imaginative play.
Challenges have been met with undying spirit and tenacity, learning knot tying for some age groups as well as tool work skills, which not only opens their minds to new possibilities but also shows teamwork when they support each other to make the best choices together.
We have seen them bloom individually too, setting up stage areas, dancing to the rhythm of nature (and our sound system for their end of term party), and crafting paracord bracelets. With each day, our children have shown us that they are ready to take on the world, their confidence and independence shining as brightly as their enthusiasm to learn.
I've learned a great deal this term too - it's not all about the kids ;-) - but I hope the children have too, as they embrace the outdoors and continue to fill their minds with adventure, wonder, and growth.
Here's to our little kids adventurists, making smart choices, remaking worlds, and reshaping futures!
