World Ocean Day Home Ed Beach Session, Saltdean
Together for our tide: explore, learn and care for our coast
Monday 8 June 11am-1pm £7 per family - book ahead
What better way to mark World Ocean Day than by spending time where the land meets the sea?
On Monday 8 June, Kids Adventurist will be heading to Saltdean Beach for a special home education session filled with rockpooling, shoreline discovery, beach creativity and coastal care.
We’ll meet at the front of the tunnel on Saltdean Beach at 11am. With low tide at approximately 12.30pm, we’ll walk together to a suitable area for rockpooling and beach exploration.
Children will be encouraged to slow down, look closely and discover what lives in and around our local shoreline. Alongside rockpooling, we may also take part in beach-inspired arts, crafts and creative activities using the coast as our inspiration. We’ll see what the weather does for us!
As part of the session, we’ll also include a simple beach clean. It’s a small, practical way for children and families to give something back to the place we’re enjoying and ultimately, protecting.
Why World ocean day
World Ocean Day is a global reminder that the ocean matters to all of us.
It covers more than 70% of our planet, produces at least half of the world’s oxygen, supports an incredible amount of life, and plays a vital role in the health of our planet.
But World Ocean Day is not only about big global messages. It’s also about local action.
For us, that means gathering as a community, exploring our own coastline, helping children connect with nature, and showing that caring for the ocean can start with something as simple as noticing what lives in a rockpool or picking up litter from the beach.
At Kids Adventurist, we believe children protect what they feel connected to. This session is designed to help children and families build that connection through curiosity, creativity and hands-on experience.
What we’ll do
We’ll meet at Saltdean Beach and walk together to a suitable beach area for the session.
Activities may include:
Rockpooling and shoreline discovery
Looking for signs of coastal wildlife
Beach-inspired arts, crafts and creativity
A simple beach clean
Conversations about how we can care for our local environment
The session will be relaxed, child-led where possible, and shaped by the tide, weather and what we discover on the day.
We will pay close attention to the weather. We may have to cancel the session if the weather isn’t safe to be on the beach.
Who is it for?
This session is designed for home educated children and their families.
It is best suited to children aged 8+, although younger siblings are welcome. Please note that children under 8 must be closely supervised from their parent or carer throughout.
This is a stay-and-play session. Parents and carers must remain with their children at all times and are responsible for their child’s safety and supervision. Kids Adventurist will lead and guide the activities.
