Discover the Magic of Saltdean Forest School

Hello Forest School Families and Friends,

This is a little summary of our week 1 activity at Forest School at Saltdean School After School.

This week, our After School Forest School sessions were filled with laughter, learning, and the joy of discovery as our young kids adventurists embraced the great outdoors, into the night!

A Week of Wonder and Exploration

What a remarkable time we had with the kids this week! Their enthusiasm was infectious as they gathered in the forest space, eager to share and teach each other new skills. It was truly heartwarming to witness their kindness and teamwork as they supported one another in learning essential outdoor skills.

From mastering fire safety rules and skillfully maneuvering bow saws to crafting unique poppies from natural materials, our kiddos showcased their creativity in the most inspiring ways. One of the week's highlights was trying out popcorn over the campfire—despite being a bit burnt, and definitely a little crunchy, it was a fun and delicious experience!

As the sun dipped below the horizon, we ended our sessions with gooey marshmallows roasted over the fire and introduced a fun blindfolded “deer ears” listening game, which we're going to evolve next week in the tranquil dark of the forest. The children tuned into the sounds of nature, enhancing their awareness and appreciation of the environment around them. And giggled. a lot.

Building Skills for their Future

Each activity at Forest School Saltdean is thoughtfully designed to nurture life skills. Our young adventurers are not only learning practical outdoor skills, but they are also developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and cooperation and leadership - without even knowing it. These experiences cultivate resilience, creativity, and confidence—abilities that will serve them well beyond the forest.

It’s moments like these, spent with friends and surrounded by the beauty of the outdoors, that are simply the bees knees. 🌳
