Wild summer adventures for children who need more than just childcare

This summer, Kids Adventurist is giving children the kind of holiday experience they’ll remember long after September rolls around.

From woodland day sessions at Parkwood to our much-loved 3 day / 2 night campouts, forest school adventures in Saltdean, campfire cooking in Stanmer Park, beach days, and big bus adventures to Seven Sisters National Park, our summer sessions are built for children who love to explore, create, climb, build, cook, play and discover.

We run outdoor holiday sessions for families across Saltdean, Brighton and Hove, Ovingdean, Peacehaven, Woodingdean and Westdene, giving children proper time outside, away from screens, school routines and over-structured days.

This is summer as it should be.

Muddy knees. Big laughs. New friendships. Quiet hammock moments. Campfire cooking. Woodland games. Beach Explorations. Wild confidence. Fun days and nights outdoors with trusted adults, keeping your kiddos safe this summer.

Child-led outdoor adventures

At Kids Adventurist, we don’t believe children need every minute of their day dictated to them.

We’re child-led. We always have been.

That means we arrive with a whole host of outdoor activities for children to choose from, but we don’t force every child to do the same thing at the same time. Some children want to whittle, build dens, cook over the fire, make natural crafts, play capture the flag, explore the woods or get stuck into forest games.

Others might want to sit in a hammock with a book, chat with a friend, paint, watch the fire, or take a slower path into the day.

Both are welcome.

Our job is to guide them, support them, encourage them and keep them safe while giving them the freedom to choose their own adventure.

What’s on this summer?

This summer’s Kids Adventurist programme includes a mix of outdoor holiday club sessions, forest school days, beach adventures and overnight campouts.

30 March - Woodland Adventure Day – Parkwood

A full forest outdoor adventure in a beautiful woodland setting. Children spend the day exploring, building shelters, using tools, cooking on the fire and developing practical outdoor skills while enjoying the freedom of nature-based play. Based at Parkwood Scout Campsite near Poynings.

9 April - Coastal Adventure & Rockpool Exploration – Saltdean

A day exploring our local coastline, discovering rockpools, learning about tides and searching for marine life. Children learn how to explore safely while developing curiosity about the natural world along the shore.

10 April - Family Rockpool Session

A two-hour guided session designed for families to explore the coastline together. We'll share tips, guidance and tools to help you discover the fascinating creatures living in our local rockpools and learn how to explore them safely and respectfully.

Kids Adventurist sessions are all about adventure, discovery and confidence-building through real outdoor experiences.

Expect muddy boots, salty sea air, curious minds and plenty of stories to take home. Oh and tired children at the end of it.

What might children do?

Every session is different because every group of children is different and every day the weather changes. We adapt sessions and activities depending on how the kids are feeling and what the weather is doing. Below are just some of the activities we could be doing with the kiddos. Note that in sessions in public spaces ie Seven Sisters, no tools / fire lighting is used.

Activities may include:

  • Den building

  • Campfire cooking

  • Whittling and tool work

  • Natural arts and crafts

  • Fire lighting

  • Woodland / Beach games

  • Capture the flag

  • Hammock time

  • Beach exploration

  • Bug hunting and nature discovery

  • Shelter building

  • Storytelling

  • Team challenges

  • Free play

  • Quiet time in nature

  • Child-led projects

We bring the ideas, equipment, skills and experience.

The children bring the imagination.

Incredible Natural Settings

Our adventures take place in some of the most beautiful outdoor environments in Sussex.

🌳 Parkwood woodland provides the perfect setting for a full forest school-style adventure day, where children can explore the woods, build shelters and cook over the fire.

🌳 Stanmer park gives us a huge wild playground on the edge of Brighton, with woodland to explore, games to play and open spaces for fire lighting, tool work and maybe even a hearty campfire treat.

🌊 Saltdean coastline offers a completely different type of adventure — exploring rockpools, discovering marine life and learning about the ever-changing shoreline.

🌊Seven Sisters National Park is a proper adventure setting, with wild woodland, open landscapes and the coastline all in one place. We can follow the children’s curiosity here, from forest games and nature exploration to a coastal stroll and big views by the sea.

Each setting offers new opportunities to learn, explore and be inspired by nature.

Why Parents choose Kids Adventurist

Kids Adventurist is for families who want their children to have more than just a place to go during the school holidays.

It’s for parents who want their children to come home tired, happy, confident and full of stories.

It’s for children who need space to move, freedom to choose, adults they can trust and a setting that lets them be themselves.

We support children to take healthy risks, make choices, solve problems, build friendships, try new things and spend real time outdoors.

We keep them safe, but we don’t wrap them in cotton wool.

We give them boundaries, but we don’t squash their adventure.

We help children feel capable.

“Sending your child off for an overnight camp is a big deal, but we felt completely confident leaving them with Kids Adventurist. The children were safe and cared for and trusted to have a proper adventure. She came home tired, muddy, happy and absolutely full of stories. It was easily one of the best holiday clubs they’ve done.” Sarah, parent

“We felt completely safe trusting Kids Adventurist with our child overnight. An absolutely brilliant experience for my child.” Chris, Parent

“It takes a lot to hand your child over for an overnight camp, but Kids Adventurist made us feel completely at ease. You can tell the children are cared for, understood and given the freedom to be kids. Our child came back exhausted, but full of stories and already asking when they can go again.” Anna, Parent

Important Parent Info

Because we are based outside, as long as it’s safe to do so, to ensure the children are prepared for their day, we need to ensure that they bring:

  • Changes of clothes - in case they get wet in the stream!

  • Outdoor shoes / wellies and spare pair of trainers (if they get too wet / muddy)

  • Waterproof trousers / coat

  • Layers - lots of layers. they can take them off and store them in our dry chalet, but if it gets cold, the more layers the better

  • Warm hat / glove / snood / buff - keeps the cold at bay

  • Packed lunch - no nuts, plus a snack for morning and afternoon. We typically cook up a treat at some point, if the weather allows.

“My kids absolutely love this adventure group. They get to explore the outdoors, playing in nature all day. There are lots of child-led activities too which my kids love. The staff are super friendly and you get a fantastic email afterwards detailing all the activities the kids have completed that day. I love seeing their muddy little smiling faces at the end of the day. Long may it continue!”
