After School Forest School at SAltdean is Back
Here’s a little update of what’s been going on at after school forest school this week.
Unfortunately, there was no snow by the time we got to our session – well, there was a tiny bit, but the kiddos quickly made use of that 😊 The sun was a welcome addition to the cooling evening though at forest school.
The children were straight on it this week, helping us to set up camp, including getting the fire ready, as they continue to learn how to set up and manage our community site each week – soon we aim for the to be in full control of getting “camp” set up and ready.
A number of children “disappeared” to collect a Christmas tree (within the school grounds, with Matt 😉) so they could start learning how to use new tools, like clippers, to begin making various items with the simple Christmas tree. This will be an ongoing process as they started to cut, peel, and experiment with different tools to kick off their creations over the next few weeks. We’re excited to show you in a few weeks what they’ve been working on!
The sweet cinnamon baked apples seemed to be a real winner with the kiddos this week including one who adamantly declared they “DO NOT LIKE APPLES” soon devouring their fair share quite quickly. It’s great to be working with the kiddos as they push their own boundaries and try new things, with a tiny bit of encouragement.
In case you missed it… the weather is still cold—please do make sure your kiddos have enough warm layers to keep toasty during the sessions (we aim to be outside as much as possible). Additionally, giving them extra snacks to enjoy straight after school will help keep their energy up, especially when it’s this chilly outside as they’ll need that extra bit of fuel to keep them going. When it’s so cold, as long as its safe to do so, we’ll aim to have our fire going to keep them warm.
Thank you again for your continued support and see you (or rather your kiddos), next week!
