A Cozy Evening of Pizza, Candles, and Fun at forest school
Forest School Adventures at Kids Adventurist: A Cozy Evening of Pizza, Candles, and Fun
At Kids Adventurist in Saltdean Primary School, we’re all about creating memorable, hands-on experiences for children that connect them to nature, foster creativity, and build teamwork. This week’s after-school session was no exception!
As the evening set in, we gathered around the fire for an activity-packed session that combined creativity, collaboration, and, of course, plenty of fun. Here’s a recap of what we got up to:
Fire Baked Flatbread Pizzas
The session began with a delicious activity—making flatbread pizzas. children were desperate to eat them before they even went on the fire!
Each child had the chance to create their own mini masterpiece, adding their favourite toppings before cooking them up. The kids loved the process of packing them with whatever goodness they chose, spreading sauce, and sprinkling cheese and toppings. Best of all, they got to enjoy the fruits of their labour as the warm, smoky aroma of freshly cooked pizza filled the air once outside.
Candle-Making by the Fire
While the pizzas were being cooked, it was time to dive into one of our most exciting projects of the term: candle-making. Last week, the children had worked hard to create their own unique candle pots, experimenting with different shapes and designs. This week, we brought their creations to life by pouring melted wax into the pots to make their own candles.
The process wasn’t without its challenges—some of the more intricate pots made wax-pouring a bit tricky. However, the kids showed amazing perseverance and teamwork. Even when one candle was accidentally dropped on the way out, the group rallied to make sure everyone had a finished candle to take home. It was a beautiful example of the supportive, collaborative spirit that our forest school nurtures.
Burning Off Energy and Building Skills
While some children took on the important roles of maintaining the fire and carefully melting the wax, others used the opportunity to run around and burn off some energy. The balance between structured activities and free play is a hallmark of our Kids Adventurist Forest School sessions, allowing kids to explore and engage with the outdoors in their own way.
Bringing Home the Glow
By the end of the evening, each child left with a handmade candle—crafted with care and a lot of teamwork. We hope these candles will shine bright in their homes and serve as a reminder of the fun and creativity they experienced with us.
Looking Ahead: Festive Fun Next Week
Next week marks the final session of the term, and we’re planning something extra special to celebrate. If the weather cooperates, we’ll be heading outdoors for Christmas-themed activities and games to wrap up the term with plenty of holiday cheer.
At Kids Adventurist, we’re passionate about creating opportunities for children to explore, learn, and grow in a supportive and nature-rich environment. Whether it’s cooking over a fire, crafting, or simply playing outdoors, our sessions are designed to spark curiosity and build confidence.
We can’t wait to see what next term brings and look forward to welcoming more adventurers to join us.
